What’s on later? 30 For 30

I know we’re all balls deep in this Celtics game on TNT, but if you’re still up for something different at 11:00, head over to ESPN2 and catch the replay of tonight’s ESPN “30 For 30. “ Tonight’s title was “Muhammad and Larry,” which chronicled the 1980 heavyweight bout between a way past-his-prime Muhammad Ali [...]

Blockbuster to close 960 stores, apparently I’m some sort of mystical soothsayer

In Saturday’s post about the 1993 classic, The Program, I made a small statement at the tail end regarding former movie rental giant Blockbuster. It was sort of a throw-away line, but today comes news (via AP/msn.com) that the once mighty franchise is closing up to 960 stores, and going the way of RedBox by opening [...]

Jeter passes Gehrig on Yank hit list

Tonight in the Bronx  Yankees shortstop  Derek Jeter surpassed  Lou Gehrig’s all-time  hit total for a Yankee  player, with a  groundball single to  right field that gave  him 2,722 hits as a  Bomber, according to the AP. Gehrig’s total  had stood since 1939, when the legendary first baseman’s career was cut short by ALS at thirty-six. [...]

Coens to remake True Grit, does The Dude abide?

In slightly more interesting  remake news, a couple of  places ran stories this week  on a tidbit of casting news in  the Coen Brothers universe. While Joel and Ethan have A  Serious Man ready for an  October release (see the  trailer on youtube here),  apparently they’re gearing  up to direct and produce a  remake of the [...]

Point Break:Indo shut down

Moviehole’s Clint Morris reported  Wednesday that the not-so anticipated  sequel to the 1991 classic Point  Break has been sidetracked and may  not get off the ground…um… ever. According to Morris the cast members  who have signed on have been told  that they can seek out other projects,  meaning they can ask their managers  at TGI [...]
