Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to host Oscars

Well that’s a surprise. Everyone’s been up in arms about who’s going to replace Huge Ackman at this year’s Oscars telecast (apparently the musical numbers were too much for him), and now they have their answers.

According to THR, the producers of the Academy Awards telecast announced today that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin have been brought in to host this year’s telecast on March 7th.

Martin’s done it before, having hosted in 2001 and 2003, but this is Baldwin’s first go around in the Oscars dojo. According to Film Drunk, the producers asked Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Stiller if they would like to co-host the gig, but they turned it down. I guess Martin and Baldwin aren’t bad replacements.

Speaking of Baldwin and Oscars, if you haven’t seen Glengarry Glen Ross and Baldwin’s speech, do yourself a favor and watch the clip above. He didn’t earn an Oscar for the performance but he almost nabbed himself a Best Supporting Actor nod for only being in the movie for seven minutes.

By the way if you’re in any type of sales job you should take a look too, or better yet Netflix the movie. The only selling I do these days is trying to convince people blogging is a wise investment of my time that will eventually pay off later, but this thing still gives me goosebumps.
