Filippo couldn’t stop the Creed- Drago fight in Rocky IV
Lou Filippo, a judge and boxing referee for more than 30 years has died, according to ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael. According to Rafael, Filippo was in the ring for a lot of great fights (Leonard-Hagler in ’87, Mosely-De La Hoya in ’00), but for us here at the blog his greatest performances came during bouts in Rocky II, III, IV, and V as the referee. He also played an announcer in the original film.
Stallone was a big fan of this guy, he even has his own action figure from the Rocky Collector’s Series. He’s obviously a big deal.
