I’ve never been much of a Thor guy, really. Sure he’s got that sweet hammer and he’s like a Norse god, which proves he is probably one bad motherfucker, but for whatever reason I never got the comic books. But in truth I wasn’t much of a Marvel guy to begin with, and I don’t know how to read so the pictures in the panels never made complete sense.
But I’m actually sorta loving the cast of Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Thor film that starts filming sometime in 2010. According to Variety, Anthony Hopkins has signed on to play Odin (Thor’s dad) in the new flick, which already has Chris Hemsworth (George Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek) signed on as the title character. According to that same report Natalie Portman is also on board as Hemsworth’s love interest.
I don’t know much of the background on the character’s origins, but this cast looks solid and Branagh is obviously a fantastic director. The flick looks to be in good hands, and it should be another big winner for Marvel and Paramount. I’m still holding out for Avengers to kick major ass too, but that project won’t get rolling for a while.
The always reliable Hopkins is also co-starring in the upcoming Wolfman movie with Benicio Del Toro, which looks pretty sweet as well. Check out the trailer below:
