25 Days of Halloween: The Lost Boys

EDITOR’S NOTE: For those of you not in the know, 6NBlog’s 25 Days of Halloween  celebration stemmed from us wanting to do something like a “31 Days of Halloween,” but not realizing it until six days later. But fear not, from now until the 31st we’ll be giving you a movie a day to devour. These aren’t all the scariest or best horror flicks we’ve seen, but they’re all 6NBlog worthy for one reason or another. Enjoy.

1987′s The Lost Boys represents everything that is great about 80′s cinema, specifically 80′s cinema featuring socially outcast vampires, motorcycles, and Corey Feldman. Directed by Joel Schumacher (yeah, the Batman and Robin guy) and featuring the likes of Feldman, Jason Patric, Corey Haim, and Kiefer fucking Sutherland, The Lost Boys isn’t necessarily creepy, but it’s 100 percent awesome. It’s a flick that everyone should see at one point or another, and what better time than right before Halloween? You’re not going to walk away from the TV saying “Man, that freaked me out,” but you will be saying “Man, I should send some sort of cash donation to 6NBlog for recommending that fine piece of cinema to me.”

The plot is sort of cut of dry, except for all of the motorcycle riding vampire thug parts. So I guess it’s not all that cut and dry. Basically, brothers Michael (Patric) and Sam (Haim) move to a coastal California town from Arizona and attempt to make friends. Sam has trouble at first but Michael gets caught up with a local group of bikers who may or may not be bloodsucking vamps. As Michael begins making his turn from human to undead, it’s up to his brother as well as the vampire hunting Frog brothers (Feldman and Jamison Newlander) to stop the transformation before it’s too late.

Okay so I take some of what I said before back. This movie is creepy at times, especially towards the end when Sutherland and crew are in full vampire mode. This flick is part action, part horror, and part comedy, and has a cult following (especially around this time of year) for a reason.

If you’ve seen this flick before you know how good it is, but if you haven’t seen it yet definitely try to grab it on Netflix. It’s worth a viewing, and if you’re looking for a little Kiefer before the new season of “24″ pops up, this could be your ticket. He’s certainly no Jack Bauer in this film, but he’s badass nonetheless.

6NBlog Rating: 7.3
