In honor of Pedro Martinez turning back the clock yesterday and dominating the Dodger lineup through seven innings (although Philly lost the game), we offer up this clip from TSN in Canada from 2004. I never heard this quote from Pedro at the time, but it was a classy nod to a very good 1994 Montreal Expos team.
For those of you who were still eating your boogers and eating at the kids’ table back in ’94 (although I still do that now) and don’t remember the strike season…the Expos were pretty nasty. Take a look at their roster at Baseball Reference here. They were out in front in the NL East by six games at the time of the strike and could have possibly made a deep run into the postseason if MLB played through the season. They finished the shortened season 74-40 and played .650 baseball. Unfortunately for them it was all downhill from there, although the Sox benefited by practically stealing Pedro from them in a 1997 trade for Carl Pavano and Tony Armas. Nice move, Dan Duquette. Nice move.
