So Tuesday marks the DVD release of the actually-kind-of-highly anticipated Trick ‘R Treat, which had a very small theatrical run at a few festivals earlier this summer, and has actually had a hell of a time finding distribution since being completed in 2007. The flick, which was written and directed by Michael Dougherty (whose only real credential is a screenplay credit for Superman Returns), and features the likes of Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, and Dylan Baker, has been getting rave reviews from pretty much everybody on the planet.
The film currently stands at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (albeit only with seven reviews), but movie websites across the world have been calling the film the next big thing in horror. Like the cat’s pajamas of horror flicks. If 6NBlog was a horror film, it wouldn’t be this movie. Because we’re dog shit. We’re probably like The Stepfather of horror flicks. But if we weren’t, if we were unreal, and if we were loved by everyone (which of course will come eventually), we’d be Trick ‘R Treat.
Peter Hall at Cinematical calls it “the holy grail of Halloween themed horror films.”
Massawyrm of AICN said “Trick ‘r Treat aspires to be more than just another series of horror stories. In fact it sets out to redefine Halloween as you know it.”
Peter Sciretta at Slashfilm actually swore in his review of the film, which is something in and of itself. But after saying the f-word, he said “Trick r Treat is the best Halloween movie since John Carptenter’s 1978 classic.”
That’s some pretty heavy stuff. This thing looks to be the real deal.
So we’ve never done blind DVD suggestions at 6NBlog, but we’re always looking to expand towards content that allows us to continue to not to do any real work. So we’re going to suggest you Netflix this sucker or even go out on a whim and buy it without even seeing it first. Which is exactly what we’re going to do.

7.9 on imdb looks solid. and the fact that the mask that thing is wearing in the trailer kinda looks like tomas from el orfanato makes it even better.
