It’s been reported today that Celtics Co-Owner Steve Pagliuca (he’s on the left above) might make a run at Ted Kennedy’s vacant Senate seat as a democratic candidate in a special election scheduled for December.

Well it’s about damn time. Ever since Jesse “The Body” Ventura was named governor of Minnesota in 1998, I’ve been waiting for a quasi-celebrity/athlete from Boston to throw their hats into the political hotbed that is the Bay State. Hell, KJ is the mayor of Sacramento for Christsakes.

Some of you will say “But Joe, Curt Schilling threw his name out there following Ted Kennedy’s death. What about him? God you’re dumb.”

Amen, I say to you, friends. However, while Curt did his thing right after Teddy passed and was shot down in polls across Massachusetts, Pagliuca has obviously put some thought into this. With Martha Coakley being the only one who has actually said “Governor? Shit… yeah I could do that” when asked about running, Pagliuca has waited for some of the better known political types to step down (Big Gun Stephen Lynch declined today)  before the race even starts. Better yet, he’s got the type of serious dough to make a run (he’s worth $400 mill according to the Globe.)

He’s hired political advisors, publicists, and the like in the anticipation of making a formal announcement in the next couple of days.

I say bring it on. Finally we can get some relevant shit done around here. Like declaring Larry Bird’s birthday a national holiday, or clearing Antoine Walker’s gambling debt with taxpayer money, or finally getting legislation passed in the Senate to disband the Laker franchise. You know, important shit.

You can read the Globe’s article on the matter, here.
